About Roohi Soni

I was born and brought
up in Chandigarh.

My schooling happened from different places as my father had a transferable job. I am an advocate by profession.

I graduated from M. C. M. DAV College, Chandigarh and then went on to get a post-graduation degree in English literature from Govt. College, Hoshiarpur. Both these colleges come under Punjab University, Chandigarh. I did my graduation in Law from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

My Hobbies: Reading, Writing, Listening Music, Spirituality

I got married to Sanjeev Soni, advocate, Punjab and Haryana High court, at a place near Amritsar. I am now a mother of two. My daughter is a Doctor, and my son is an advocate.

The place where I got married had very few English medium schools in those days, so I opened one for the children in that area. Since I was an advocate, I got appointed as the court auctioneer by the Punjab and Haryana High Court and could not continue the school.
Thereafter, I became the President [JUDGE] District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum. Presently, I am practicing as an advocate at Punjab and Haryana High Court and an author, counsellor, family therapist, motivational speaker, life coach and a blogger. As a counsellor I have taken sessions of both teachers and students at various schools and have been a member of various managements of schools for deciding the curriculum on how to inculcate positive attitude among both students and teachers.

During the times of covid I have been doing online seminars about how to keep a check on mental health and stay positive in times of despair.

My Journey

  • The journey encapsulated in my book "Towards Success" is actually my own. I never understood how all these things affected me before. As all other persons, I knew only two emotions- happy in good moments and sad in bad situations. But as I read some books and gained experiences through life, I understood the 'secret'. From that time onwards, I came to know why a person is sad all the time, or why he keeps waiting for moments of happiness to come into his life.
  • Slowly, I learnt that all the happiness, sadness, neverousness and impulsiveness are always within us. We cannot put the blame on others for our sadness, failure, etc. Repeated thinking of negative thoughts invites more of the same thoughts and allows them to settle down in our body and mind.
  • Normally, we don't even invite those guests who disturb us or give us trouble, then why do we invite the negative feelings that trouble our mind, and let them make our mind and body sick. It's the truth. As long as we have a soul inside our body, we have life in it. So, it's our moral duty to keep our mind and body clean. People bathe daily and change into new and fresh clothes. What about the freshness of our mind?
  • We brush our teeth daily, change clothes, wash our face, but the most important thing, our body, remains unclean despite all these rituals. Why? Have you been to a religious place? The devotees clean and wash the place thoroughly, the stairs, the front and back yard, and the inner chamber with water and at some places, with milk too. What use is all that if we never clean our minds before going to such places of worship?
  • The same is with our body. We shower from head to toe, but care less for our mind that thinks, gives directions, and decides everything for us. It remains constantly negative from morning till evening. The purity of mind is as important as washing or bathing our body. Like our body excretes all wastage from itself, the mind needs to follow suit.
  • Each and every chapter in this book is followed by a simple exercise that can help you do the same. I hope that all I have learnt through the years of my life may benefit you. This book has been my childhood 'dream'. I never let the spark of writing fade away through all these years. I kept the light burning inside me. No doubt, it took me many years to reach my goal, but I finally wrote this book.
  • I am thankful to all those who were a part of my journey of writing this book. First of all I thank the Almighty. His divine presence encouraged me to write on. I am grateful to my husband, daughter, son, my parents and my friends.
